Teeth WhiteningTeeth Whitening Home and in the practice?
Teeth whitening is one of the quickest and easiest ways to boost your smile and with it your self-confidence. Depending on the type of tooth whitening treatment you choose, results can take about three weeks, or just one hour with a power-whitening session.
Our teeth become stained by the food and drink we consume, particularly tea, coffee and red wine. Habits such as smoking will further stain the teeth, and their natural bright white shade becomes dull. This may cause social embarrassment, making you hide your smile behind your hands. Tooth whitening is a simple cosmetic procedure that will give you back that natural bright sheen for a smile you want to show off.
The exact degree of whiteness achieved varies from patient to patient, and will depend on the type of whitening process you choose.
At Park View we offer two options for teeth whitening: home whitening and in-practice whitening, using the Zoom system. In some cases we can combine both procedures.
If you visit us for teeth whitening treatment, we will first check that your teeth and gums are in good health. Any underlying conditions may need to be treated first before the whitening process is started. Provided your mouth is healthy, we will discuss the two whitening options with you.
1. Zoom in-office teeth whitening
This is the quickest way to achieve whiter teeth. In the practice, a whitening gel is applied to your teeth. All you need to do is sit back and relax for an hour while a special light is shone over your teeth to activate the gel. This procedure can lighten your teeth by several shades, brightening them dramatically to their natural colour.
2. Home teeth whitening
Home teeth whitening involves the use of custom-made trays and whitening gel. You will still need to visit the practice so the trays can be made to fit over your teeth exactly. Once your trays have been made up, your dentist will then explain how to use them with the gel. You should place a small amount of the whitening gel in the trays and wear them overnight, or for short periods during the day, for an average of three weeks. You should then come back into the practice to check the results are what you and your dentist expected.
